The main theme of the Genshin Impact soundtrack, Dream Aria, sounded very different at the beginning of the RPG. Known insider Genshin Ubatcha reportedly discovered a version of the song present in several previous versions of the game that contained lyrics. They posted it on Reddit and YouTube, though like all game leaks, the preview thread isn’t technically official. However, the lyrics cannot be translated, as it seems that HoYoMix composer Yu Peng Chen chose to use a fictional language for the lyrics, similar to what we hear in NieR’s so-called “Chaos Language”. Automata and NieR Replicant: The Strings. words inspired by various existing languages but without real meaning.
This deviates from the Teyvat alphabet used for game boards and books, which some clever fans have cracked and realized is just a form of reverse Latin and not a new or borrowed language.
The existing official theme is divided into two parts. During the day, it’s instrumental music based on soaring flutes and strings. The night version has voices, but mostly for the environment.
Ubatcha didn’t share any additional context for the theme, so it’s unclear if this is the first iteration or when HoYoverse might have changed it. That was enough to make some fans wonder if we’ll see a language later in the story that, more unofficially, is the prototypical Khaenri’a language.
However, that is still far in the future. The next stop in Genshin Impact’s Traveler will be Sumeru, the land of Dendro and intense academic learning, and for fans of the game’s soundtrack, that will likely mean another set of new Yu Peng Chen CDs.
