So you want to know more about the Starfield planets? As you no doubt saw during the recent Xbox and Bethesda demo, there are planets in Starfield. More than 1000 of them, to be exact, are scattered in more than 100 star systems. On average, each system will have about ten celestial bodies to admire.
But this star field planets not just there to be a feast for the eyes. Some of these are the homeworlds of many Starfield factions, where you can visit their main headquarters in Starfield cities such as New Atlantis on the planet Jamison. But many other worlds are desolate places ripe for exploration, and that is how the only task for Constellation, one of the main bands, is to push the boundaries of human understanding.
We now know that you can build outposts in Starfield, recruit characters to equip them, and gather resources. Every planet is likely to have at least one landmark worth exploring or valuable material that is hard to find. After all, just because there isn’t a settlement to visit doesn’t mean there aren’t lost treasures waiting to be found. Enough of the speculation, though: here’s everything we know about the Starfield planets so far.
What can you do on the Starfield planets?
According to Todd Howard, you can “land and explore” anywhere on the planet, even if there’s a central landmark or settlement to visit. Howard uses Jamison as a specific example for this, so the rule may not be universal. For example, the unnamed water world where Neon Pleasure City is located may not be fully explored because it contains a lot of water. We’ll have to wait until we’re closer to Starfield’s release date before we know the full scope of what it can explore.
If you want to see the new information for yourself, here’s the extended gameplay trailer:
Planets and star field systems
As of this writing, we only know of a few planets and systems from the Xbox and Bethesda launch event on June 12, 2022. These are all named star systems we’ve seen so far:
- I usually
- alpha centaur
- Narion
- Jaffa
- they will be
- Cheyenne
- porrima
Alpha Centauri system
As revealed in the main story of the extended game, Alpha Centauri is the closest solar system to our solar system. In the Starfield timeline, it is now the capital of the United Colonies faction. There are three planets in the system, one of which has two moons and then a gas giant orbiting the outer rim with five moons. Known planets of Alpha Centauri:
- jamison (New Atlantis location)
- Gagarin
- Olive (The gas giant)
- Shawla (olive moon)
Narion System
You can see this system during a brief examination of the Starfield galactic map. It is in (relative) proximity to the Sun and Alpha Centauri, and although we know little about this star system, it does have at least one planetary body, a moon called Vectera.
In the gameplay trailer, this moon is where Bethesda shows off Starfield’s forward systems, where you can build and manage your own bases for various purposes.
unknown
Everything is known about these planets, but we don’t know exactly where to find them in the Starfield universe:
- Crete, moon of Anselon – “Abandoned Research Base” location used to showcase Starfield gameplay. Anselon can be a system name
- unnamed water planet – Neon Pleasure City Location
- Unnamed dry/mountainous planet – location Free Star Collective the capital of Akila
Solar system
We know that the solar system exists in the game because it is on the galaxy map. However, we don’t know what role he plays in the Starfield timeline. Of course, we know which planets are in our solar system, so we don’t need to list them, but we’ll have to wait to find out more about what’s going on with the birthplace of humanity in the open world.
And that’s all there is to the Starfield planets at the moment. For more on Starfield, check out what we know so far about Starfield mod support, plus the great news on Starfield Game Pass. For more exciting space games, we also have a guide.
