Callisto Protocol is the protagonist of a new in-depth study on the PlayStation Blog posted on the occasion of last night’s presentation. Glen Schofield from Stunning Distance about the structure of the game, especiallyhorror engineeringi.e. the construction system of the settings and the current direction.

With the trailer of The Callisto Protocol in State of Play last night, we finally got the chance to see the first gameplay of the sci-fi horror game, but therefore some other details also come from one of the main players, Schofield. The authors of the Dead series Space, as it is easy to understand.

thisadjustment and part of the story:

Set on the Jupiter’s dead moon Callisto in 2320, The Callisto Protocol is the story of Black Iron prison inmate Jacob Lee who must fight for his life when a mysterious biological threat throws the satellite into chaos. Prison guards and other inmates turn into fearsome monsters called the Biophage: Jacob will have to destroy them in order to survive and uncover the dark secrets of the United Jupiter Corporation.

To make the Callisto Protocol world particularly vivid and disturbing, the development team used a technique called “Fear Engineering” that has the ability to create “Unforgettable horrors”. It involves melting and combining various components such as atmosphere, tension, violencea sense of desperation and humanity, at least in Striking Distance’s intentions, to heighten tensions and trigger an unprecedented sense of terror, but the video shown is pretty believable in that respect.

For Schofield, the feeling of fear stems first and foremost from the atmosphere, so Callisto has been chosen as a sad, bare and isolated world that can produce restlessness. A key element in fostering these feelings is the study of light and shadows used with great care.

Another factor of great interest is battle systemSeeking a balance between firefighting and hand-to-hand combat, which also uses a special gravity weapon called the GRP.

Black Iron guards GRP Only with this weapon will Jacob be able to confront Biophage with creative solutions to keep the prisoners under control. To get out of a critical situation, the player can stun an oncoming monster or even throw it into a turbine or some type of environmental threat nearby.

The Callisto Protocol is a survival horror, so the player must constantly feel helpless, almost helpless. Jacob is not a soldier, every fight he encounters will be a matter of life and death. Ammo, health, and weapons will be scarce and therefore very valuable, so it will be necessary to seek out Black Iron for all available resources.
