In late May, a Marvel MMO from the team behind the similar online superhero game DC Universe Online was canceled a year after its announcement, apparently prompting an exodus from developers Dimension Ink and Daybreak Games, including frontrunner DC UniverseOnline. Developer Jack Emmert.
Jack Emmert was previously the director of the superhero MMORPGs City of Heroes and City of Villains and co-founder of developer Cryptic Studios before becoming the director of DC Universe Online and MMO Marvel and CEO of Dimensional Ink Games. Emmert has been trying to launch the MMO Marvel Universe Online since 2006.
Following the cancellation of the Marvel MMO in Dimensional Ink, Jack Emmert left the studio entirely to join Jackalope Games NetEase. Unfortunately, he’s not the only high-profile developer to leave Dimensional Ink last month. Lead Content Designer Rob “Charon” Frazier apparently left on June 3, among other recent departures that have fans concerned about the quality of DC Universe Online going forward.
It’s not all bad news for DC fans, as creative director SJ “NerdofPrey” Muller resigned last year and recently announced that he is now the design director for Monolith’s upcoming Wonder Woman game. However, he’s another major developer who left Dimensional in the last 12 months, so Daybreak has plenty of room to fill if they want to make their planned next-gen upgrade.
What would make me (still) travel the world, you ask? Why:
I am delighted to announce that I have accepted the position of Design Director for Wonder Woman! https://t.co/6yMJFSuKg8

If you want to see how Marvel’s MMO played out before it was cancelled, several leaked images have revealed that it may have been inspired by the slick Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse.
