Bungie Responds To Destiny 2 Rift Backlash By Upgrading Solar Warlocks

As Bungie announced at This Week at Bungie, Solar Warlock is getting a major overhaul and may reduce the flavor of Rift matches in Iron Banner. While the developer of Destiny 2 acknowledges the community’s annoyance with Rift’s activity in MMO games, it seems the only changes on the horizon are aimed at addressing Iron Banner’s reputation issues. Players have reported on Reddit that they received little to no reputation boosts after matches, but the upcoming update allows you to gain reputation bonuses for playing matches, winning, and wearing all of the five-piece Iron Banner armor.

The June 2 TWAB makes no mention of Rift’s match speed changes or even bugs that players say sometimes make the game nearly unplayable. Instead, the team recommends playing white to get the most out of the action.

He mentions a number of significant changes planned for the Solar subclasses, improving the healing abilities of Solar Warlocks and making Solar Titans more interesting in combat. “We’d rather release something too spicy than something bland that makes a bad first impression. I think with Solar 3.0 we landed somewhere in the middle and the team is very passionate that this is not the right place,” says Bungie Sandbox Discipline Lead Kevin Yan in a TWAB update post.

These changes will appear in Update 4.0.1.2, scheduled for release on June 7.

Chief among the Solar perks is a set of healing abilities for Solar Warlock builds. Using grenades will cause a healing effect that is tripled if you use a healing grenade. Quickly taking down opponents using the Icarus Rush move ability also heals you, and Skyfire adds more burn stacks than before. That’s a lot of healing, so if you’re tired of dying in Rift matches and spawning at an enemy base, it might be time to consider switching classes.

The changes to the Solar Titan are a bit less drastic, but seem to be designed to take advantage of the class’s strengths. Titans will receive an additional Hallow Fragment slot and 25% additional damage to Blazing Maul in PvE scenarios. While Roaring Flame is active, uncharged melee attacks generate 30 fiery charges.

Bungie promises more details about Arc 3.0 changes in the near future and reminds players that once Arc changes the ship, no major skill changes are expected in the near future.

If you’ve linked your Amazon Prime and Bungie accounts, you can also get a new set of cosmetics in June:

  • Polaris Lance scout rifle
  • Bray Legacy Exotic Weapon Ornament
  • Exotic Ash Angel Sparrow
  • Nightmare Chalice Projection

While you wait for a new hotfix that will further improve your Solar Warlock builds, find out how to get Season 17 Exotics, including the new Rain of Fire Warlock Leg Armor.
