Facepaints in Horizon Forbidden West unlock cosmetics that are often given to Aloy when she completes certain side missions. Face paints also dissolve quite early, although there are no specific instructions on how to wear them.

To use the types of paint you collect during the game, you need to find a Painter Merchant. Like most traders, they are found in settlements, but only in very specific settlements.
