Wondering how to swim at Horizon Forbidden West? Here’s what you need to know.
Horizon Forbidden West brings many new elements to the cult PlayStation franchise, including the ability to hover. It becomes a great way to get around and access remote platforms. It’s easy to forget that this tool is part of Aloy’s new arsenal, but luckily the game will always remind you where it might be important to use it.
But skating isn’t a skill Aloy can use right out the door. In fact, you have to go through a certain part of the game before unlocking it. Here’s what you need to know.

To skate in the forbidden West of the horizon, you have to reach a certain part of the story. First you need to reach Barren Light and start the “Embassy” quest. The Shieldwing Glider automatically drops to Aloy during this quest, making it an unacceptable skill.
Once received, you will soon find that there are better places to use it than others. Jump from a high place like a ledge or mountain top, then press the square button. This will make the wing slippery and allow you to walk all the way to the ground.
If you want to stop skating prematurely, just press the circle button to cancel this ability.
Throughout the Forbidden West, you will find gliding an integral part of navigating various terrains. Don’t be shy and try as much as possible.
