Nintendo may be taking competitive gaming more seriously after filing a patent for its anti-cheating software.
The patent, as reported by Nintendo Life, pertains to Nintendo’s online games on the face of it and is described as “systems and methods for identifying modified application data.” Although nit is conclusively proven, it appears to be anti-fraud software that detects when a user tries to modify the software.
Official statement, “The official patent statement states: ‘The technology described implements certification programs using “code reuse” techniques.” In particular, the technology refers to certification programs for automated generators, among others aspects, to determine if a program has changed.

The patent states that “cheating is incredibly common where the gaming landscape extends to games, especially online multiplayer. In particular, users can modify the software to have the opportunity to gain an advantage over other players in different systems.
These unfair advantages mean that the game is much less satisfying for the user, thus affecting the overall human user experience and in-game interaction. “In addition, such changes to the game program pose certain risks of security for the game system.”
There is no indication as to when this software will be released or which games Nintendo might be targeting. Most software is Super Smash Bros. likely to be useful. For Ultimate or the next Splatoon 3.
Stopping the Nintendo scam will undoubtedly come as a relief to fans of these competitive online games.
