WoW WotLK Classic: Missed expansion release date?

World of Warcraft’s Wrath of the Lich King Classic expansion speaks for itself once again after waiting long, endless weeks with no real news. Announced (or rather confirmed) last April, it saw its beta spread quite quickly, eventually reaching its most mysterious radio silence. It’s annoying that Blizzard chose (or didn’t) fix the problem so eagerly.

WotLK Classic: After the scheduled release date?

While many gamers are expecting it to be the end of August 2022 with some taste bud disappointments given that it is the end of summer for a large number of workers and students, the latest news shows that the Wrath Lich King Classic is slated for much longer. period of time, overdue will be

On the night of July 21-22, 2022, Blizzard officially announced on its official website dedicated to the game’s second classic expansion, that the release date would be Monday, September 26, 2022. Tuesday September 27, 2022, 12:01 (Paris time) for us French speakers.

Wrath of the Lich King: Classic

A surprising announcement and for good reason since it happened at 00:30 (Paris time)… it was a mistake a priori! The title that spawned this mysterious release date was quickly removed after publication, and the possibility of human error was widely discussed.

On the other hand, it can be said that Blizzard is not a fan company, and this “mistake” can have two main attractions:

  1. Warn players without overdoing it. This adds to the “hype” and makes many people re-subscribe to Burning Crusade Classic to start updating their saga while waiting for WotLK Classic, e.g.
  2. Measure player satisfaction with a release date like this. We can imagine that the expansion is ready (or not too far away) and if many players complain about being placed too late (or too early), Blizzard could consider extending it (or delaying it more or less) .

Additionally, Dragonflight and Shadowlands were leaked in much the same way a few days before their announcement, and we have the typical communication pattern established recently at Blizzard (intentionally or not): error is good. Every revelation is no longer an error!

How reliable is this “leak”?

At the time of this writing, it is clearly impossible to judge the reliability of such a leak. However, we can guarantee that it is completely original and official, as it comes from the official Battle.net site itself, so it’s no joke for someone with no visibility.

If we have to comment on this alleged release date, let’s just say that it seems plausible, albeit remote. For our part, we have long predicted the end of August (around the 30th) at the earliest and mid-September (especially the 16th). However, based on this “leak”, which has been a pretty typical day for expansion deployments lately, it’s still reasonable since the expansion will be deployed on Tuesday, September 27 at 12:01 a.m. PT:

  • Legion was released on Tuesday, August 30, 2016.
  • Battle for Azeroth Posted on Wednesday August 15th, 2018
  • WoW Classic was released on Tuesday, August 27, 2019.
  • Shadowlands hits theaters on Tuesday, November 24, 2020.
  • Burning Crusade Classic was released on Wednesday, June 2, 2021.

If we juxtapose this trend and this “leak” with the content distributed in the beta of Wrath of Wrath of Lich King Classic, we arrive at the same conclusion: September 27 seems logical. While still waiting for a significant experience bonus to reach Burning Crusade Classic realms (a month to the day!), some realms and their players are completely isolated (i.e. Fire Cheeks).

Wrath of the Lich King: Classic

In beta, Blizzard has just started reposting content. Previously, much of the comms and manpower was focused on Alpha of Dragonflight (although the teams are different for Retail and Classic, they have quite a large collaborative workforce). While this was testing for the first level 80 raids that began rolling out on Thursday, July 21, 2022, the beta largely stalled for a good month without any real new content being added.

Finally, and with all of these factors in mind, as mentioned earlier, a version released on Tuesday, September 27, 2022 looks quite believable. But take this information with caution: last minute changes can be considered if necessary!
