his Financial results for the 4th quarter of 2021 Released on Thursday, February 3, 2022, Activision Blizzard King has announced that the Warcraft license will be coming to mobile devices very soon. While we have been waiting for news on the mobile side for a long time, with many licenses planned, including the port of Warcraft, we expected such news with a more direct and official press release. But after all, why not ?
A potential developer, Recall, announced in 2018 that a “Pokémon GO-style” mobile game was in development for the Warcraft series. Later, in February 2021, Blizzard announced an invitation to develop a mobile game dedicated to the same series.
While we learned in a Q2 2021 report that two mobile games dedicated to the Warcraft license are being tested internally, we still know a lot about one of them. It seems to be planned for 2022. Is it potentially a closed beta phase? Again, there is no clear information, although very likely.
We already know that this will have very little (if anything) to do with the WoW Companion app and Hearthstone, the only common denominator mentioned with them is: free Will it be a new mobile-friendly Warcraft artifact like Diablo Immortal? No opinion, but no hypothesis at this stage.
However, rest assured for World of Warcraft players: this news is not likely to impress you. Like Diablo Immortal for the Diablo license, we highly doubt this new game will impress World of Warcraft players and require them to have a smartphone to access the Blizzard MMO or other specific content. The two should coexist without unnecessary problems, including from an educational point of view (Diablo Immortal goes as a reminder between Diablo II: Lord of Destruction and Diablo III).
Finally, if this news will not have much impact on World of Warcraft players in the long term, it is still excellent news for Blizzard’s MMORPG: content is planned for 2022! With the upcoming 9.2 patch and the latest 9.2.5 announcement, it might seem obvious, but official sources are always better than some guesswork!
Let’s not cry wolf in a hurry: we don’t even know what kind of game this game will be! Warcraft-style RTS? RPG? Teamfight Tactics style fighter? If it has anything to do with any of this, is it a dedicated pet fighting license? Confidential, we will obviously know more in the coming weeks!
