This week, we’ve compiled an all-time list of our favorite Pokémon in honor of Pokémon Day, which took place last week.
For many of us, Pokémon has been a lifelong comfort. We all know what our first Pokemon game was, our favorite game for beginners, and more Pokemon names than real-world animals. The appearance of Pokémon in cartoons, movies, business cards, etc. was probably the greatest cultural revival of our lifetime. After being founded in the mid-90s, the franchise has just entered its 26th year.
The 9th generation Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet games have just been announced and will be released later this year. Thanks to his discovery, we decided to revisit some of our most treasured recordings throughout the series.
pokemon ruby
Max.: While I’ve played every major Pokémon franchise from start to finish, Generation Three is the one I’m most passionate about. And when Omega Ruby came out just two years ago, I have to relive those memories and more. Not to mention the super spin-off, Pokemon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire. Gold and silver are close, but only ruby is missing.
Pokemon Stadium
Nat: Are you making fun of me too much!? Can I load my Pokemon from my Game Boy and also play my best friend’s Pokemon? The most important thing was to see your favorite Pokemon on the big screen, and then you can try your luck in a Gym Leader Duel at Gym Leader Castle. Realizing the Pokémon trainer is every child’s dream.
Pokemon Blue
alexander: I never bought Pokemon Blue, in fact, it came to mind when I was a child between the seats of a bus that my father drove. I acted like I had discovered a precious relic, and to be honest, that’s how it turned out; A game that unknowingly changed my life forever. I spent hours collecting and preparing my Pokémon, giving them names that matched all the cartoons I was obsessed with at the time. I couldn’t have done it without the Game Boy getting stuck in my hands. Nani leaned over my sofa, the device bent perfectly in the sun because it did not turn on. I didn’t understand then, but I reached the pinnacle of stillness.
The best thing about Pokémon Blue (and Red) is that it still survives today, thanks to its pixel style and simple mechanics. Sure, later games have improved a lot of things, but returning to Kanto is just as enjoyable as it was back then. I still choose it every time to go back to a simple time. Pokémon Crystal was close to second place, but Blue and I are making a comeback.
Pokémon Platinum
ralston: For perhaps the most versatile starters in the series – including the lone Piplup – Diamond and Pearl had a great map, great music, innovative battle stats, and brought the series into the modern era, thank you . Nintendo DS Wi-Fi Features. (Yes, I had patch cords.)
But Platinum added Poland, which badly needed the original 4th gen games, followed by a few with faster, smoother game launches and story updates and expansions.
pokemon sapphire
Noah: Pokémon Sapphire wasn’t the first Pokémon game I played, but it was the only major game that spoke to me. I love the glamor and richness of pixel art and how it feels to ride a Mach bike on Route 110. It doesn’t matter what genre, because I over-corrected that bullshit.
There is a special comfort in a game created for children who do not talk to each other. You don’t need a lot of hard work, but you still feel a sense of accomplishment when you finally cross the road to victory and take down the elite four – even if you’ve already ruined your Master Ball on a Pokemon random. Understand that you will never have it again. That’s life!
