As explained in the previous article, Zion will take the nerf in zombie form. The latter mainly concerns the ability to destroy enemy buildings, an increasingly popular strategy highlighted by Streamer Baus. In fact, he is not the inventor of this structure which has been around for years, but he is probably its most famous user. So, can we say that he is partly responsible for these future nerfs?
Who is Bau?
Baus is a Swedish Editor, Challenger and Sion AD OTP in League of Legends Europe. Even though the actor is best known for his streaming activities right now, he still has a bit of a competitive history. He was part of G2 Esports instead in 2019. Baus has just achieved Challenger rank in South Korea, whose server is considered the most competitive in League of Legends on the Chinese superserver. Of course, he did it with his favorite champion and in front of almost 30,000 people, a very good performance for this streamer who gathered an average of 1,500 viewers.
To complete this challenge, Streamer used his favorite strategy: Inting Zion. This includes crafting lethal items (armor piercing) and striking an opponent. If all goes well, he dies and that’s fine. If the All-In misses, the zombie form immediately grabs Baus and stages a trade kill, or he takes over the tower and takes a few plates to end his kill without major consequences. Despite 59% of the total gain, Baus’s K/D/A on Sion is only 1:1, which is very rare at this level of play. Once Riot Games accidentally banned it due to statistics. This indeed looks more like the interprofile than the competitor profile.
Is he directly responsible for Sion’s future nerfs?
Of course, given yesterday’s announcements, it’s hard not to make the connection between the streamer and the incoming nerf for the undead giant. Some publishers have even noticed it on social networks.
Chap’s arguments are featured in the tweets below. For him, it’s scary, because only some of the best players in the world can conceive of this tactic. It is not enough to die stupidly in the street, it must be done in the right place and at the right time. Few people will be able to copy it perfectly, and the nerf seems more preventative than helpful. Its only purpose would be to prevent games from being destroyed in soloQ after highlighting this layer. According to Chap, the only thing that will save this layer today is that it is so rare. If it had been more popular, players would have learned to fight it and been much less effective.
It’s just that Riot Games doesn’t operate as usual and they don’t like it when champions don’t play the way they imagined. Many exotic buildings such as Rengar AP, Mage Fortune, Yi AP or Kennen AD have disappeared over the years. However, the fact that Zion was able to destroy towers so quickly probably won’t be targeted by the editor. And above all, it could hamper the development of future installations or mechanics, because the developers will also have to think about this unusual building. For example, dropping a deadly item that deals bonus damage on passive turns can suddenly create that Sion build OP, while for most other AD kills this bonus will likely have little effect.
