LoL: Better Nerf Irelia, Meme Story

Many memes have been created in League of Legends over the years. Some stayed across the country (For example in France do a domingo to say that we have a light on the wall) Others have become international classics (Faker and roll or broccoli). Today it’s time to come back to the first of them, the famous Better nerf Irelia.

Irelia’s story

Blade Dancer landed in Summoner’s Rift on November 16, 2010. According to Kuo Yen “Xypherous” Lo, game designer at Riot Games, the champion was heavily inspired by the character Kenshin Himura from the manga Rurouni Kenshin. Although he loses the samurai side of the character due to the use of the katana, his personality is really close to the traveler. Like her, Irelia finds herself at war when she does not appreciate violence. He also chooses to fight with all his might in hopes of creating a better future.

Their spells are also very different from the current version. Already his passive gives him stamina, depending on whether his opponents are numerically or by name. Fatal Rush works the same as the current version, except it doesn’t organize a folder to increase attack speed. His W is Hiten style, which allows him to passively regenerate life with auto attacks and gives true bonus damage when activated on auto attacks, while doubling passive healing time. The last major spell in Equilibrium works differently depending on the opponent’s life. If Irelia has a higher health percentage than the opponent, the balance slows the opponent. If the opponent has more life percentage, he will be surprised. The ending is also different because Irelia can still make multiple waves while throwing these swords. On the other hand, the latter do not arm themselves and do not slow down, they only inflict damage, restoring life.

skip art era

At the time, Irelia quickly established itself as a sure value of the first order. His champion kit allows him to hit easily, while his passive regeneration allows him to stay in lane for a long time. He was relatively easy to gain the advantage in some games and soon joined the Jacks as one of the best line monsters of the era. However, if the champion is very strong, the strongest character in the game in a given patch has very rarely been, and if he is often banned from competition, his ban is not even systematic. But then, how did we arrive at this famous Better nerf Irelia?

The champion masks the jungle

Balancing the old version of Irelia perfectly has always been a headache for Riot Games. Either the champion was too strong to play even a little more, or he was too weak to be interesting. The publisher will try in vain to balance it over the years, and it’s not until a much more modern series appears with much stronger characters that Blade Dancer will be a little useless, at least until be reworked. This difficulty in balancing Ionia was increasingly recognized by the public. TIt started with a small patch. Riot Games reported that champions were nervous, and audiences are eagerly awaiting certain characters to get a little kick in the back. Surprisingly most of the expected changes are not coming in this patch, but Irelia is a little nervousAlthough not the most problematic champion at the moment.

Soon after, problems arose with the success of the game. Lags and crashes are becoming more frequent with no game-confusing behavior, but just notice and note this increase. At the request of players who want to know when this situation will be resolved, Riot Games is deafening their ears (server updates do not happen overnight, probably because they do not know exactly when this problem will be resolved ). In addition to this, the balancing group continues to work on Irelia. And so for the past few patches, while players have been waiting for their IG questions to be answered, there have been many (still reasonable, by the way) balancing attempts on Blade Dancer. Thus, the famous Better Nerf Irelia was born. The meme has since been widely dismissed, but ultimately more or less forgotten. Note that unlike the others, it is not exported out of the game.
