With each League of Legends update, Riot Games introduces new skins to its community. Historically, players have complained that they don’t feel like they’re performing well enough – complaints that are becoming more and more common. Some people think the studio did a bad job and that some looks aren’t worth the price anymore. The brand new Monster Trainer skins that come with Patch 12.15 have not escaped a little controversy.
There have been many criticisms since they were designed, including that they would be a simple copy-paste of an existing view.
A remix of old skins?
The main criticism is that many players think Lulu, Kog’Maw, and Veigar Monster Trainers look a lot like their old three skins: Lulu Astro-groove, Kog’Maw Bee, and Veigar Cosplay Corgnon. Admittedly, there are some similarities to be seen here – this has offended some community members, who see it as a simple recolor with minor edits.
“Like you never tried, monster tamer Lulu could have been so much better and legendary. Also, am I surprised we don’t have champions like Zira and Zoe? These costumes might not work , but I hope not.”
The champion select was also somewhat disappointing. Last year, Riot Games gave the community a chance to choose a new family of skins from three offerings: Monster Trainers, Criminal Nightmare, and Seducer 2.0. The winner was second and last, but Seductive 2.0 was also very popular. Therefore, the studio decided to release it at the end of the year.
In early 2022, Riot announced – finally – that a third family of Monster Trainers would be coming to Summoner’s Rift, and it has now been confirmed. The problem is that in the initial concept art for this theme, we can see Jahana and Ezreal, who were ultimately not chosen unlike other themes that were voted on. For Criminal Nightmare and Seducer 2.0, featured champions have all received announced skins. It is therefore a disappointment for players who expect a new look for Avatar of the Air and Prodigal Explorer.
“So you’re giving Akali, the twisted fate, the skins of Leona and Malzahar but not Jana and Ezreal?!” He insulted a citizen on Twitter.
In any case, Riot Games has decided to introduce this new family with fewer characters in Summoner’s Rift. If it works and knows how to attract players, we can legitimately hope that other champions will appear in this title – and if it dissolves, there will be no sequel. We remember the Demacia Vice family, released only once in 2011 with Garen and Darius. Ultimately, it will be society.
