The LPL’s top player, Zhang “Zoom” Xing-Ran, has left Top Esports after six months to join rival Ultra Prime for the 2022 LPL Spring Split.

“After friendly discussions with Zoom and UP, we have mutually agreed to move to UP,” Top Esports said in a statement on Monday. “I thank him for his efforts and dedication. I wish you the best with Zoom.

Prior to joining Top Esports in December 2021, Zoom played for JD Gaming. He shared the LPL with that team in the spring of 2020, taking the top spot in the division in the process. After the following split, he and the team reached the finals of Top Esports, but the team bounced back and reached the quarter-finals of the 2020 League of Legends World Cup.

JD Gaming finished the Spring Split 2021 in fifth-sixth place and then missed the Summer Playoffs. This led to a roster overhaul which resulted in Zoom’s move to Best Esports. His time couldn’t have been worse – senior rookie Huang “Wayward” Ren-Xing had the season’s best streak, won the Split Rookie Award and kicked off the playoff game every spring, leaving very few of game time to Zoom.

Formerly known as eStar, Ultra Prime has spent most of its existence in the middle of the LPL rankings. The team finished all but the top ten divisions after making the playoffs in the spring of 2020.

The LPL has yet to announce a start date for the 2022 summer season.
