Scarner will receive a VGU refresh and a new themed skin rejuvenation after winning the 2022 Season Survey. Riot Games has announced that it will soon begin retraining Skarner and will release an updated version of Crystal Vanguard in 2023. Riot applies these visual improvements not only to modernize the old champion, but also to fix unrealized visual design choices. League of Legends has been surveying players for the past two years who want to receive VGU refresher and themed upgrades. Last year, Udir won the poll, and Riot has been working on the upgrade since 2021. Recycled Udyr will launch later this year.
The poll appeared in the League of Legends game lobby, where players can vote for VGU updates and skin themes for Shyvanna, Nocturne, Skarner, Tyrndamere, and Kog’Maw. Riot announced the results on February 4, showing Skarner winning by an absolute margin – 33.4% of the vote, while Shivana came in second with 19.6% of the vote.

Riot has constantly found ways to modernize League of Legends since the game was released in 2009. Despite adding new champions and features to the game, some old champions are struggling to keep up with the game. Riot aims to update visually return old champions to their current state of play.
Scarner was released in 2011 and is a giant crystal scorpion from the Secret Valley of Surima. Because the Skarners are brutal and fast, they are often played on the upper street or in the woods. Skarner is a great champion in the game, maintaining an average profit margin of around 50%, but his pick rate has dropped over the years as his squad is repetitive and a bit boring.
The themed VGU and skin upgrade in 2023 aims to improve Scarner and restore his popularity in Summoner’s Rift.
