Riot Games has filed a lawsuit against Shanghai-based Moonton Technology for allegedly copying League of Legends: Wild Rift in the game Mobile Legends: Bang Bang.
Riot filed a lawsuit Monday in the U.S. District Court in Central California to “suspend Moonton’s targeted and sustained campaign to freely use Riot’s high-value mobile video game, League of Legends: Wild Rift.” A copy of the complaint obtained by Reuters.

Riot Games has sued Moonton multiple times for allegedly copying Wild Rift in Magic Rush: Heroes and Mobile Legends: 5v5 MOBA. Every time games disappeared from stores, a new version quickly emerged with a new name, and each time Riot saw it as an infringement of League of Legends intellectual property.
Alleged violations include user interface similarity, character design, in-game abilities, promotional materials and more.
“Since Riot updated the video game, Moonton has copied it,” the new lawsuit states. “When Riot updated the game’s promotional materials, Moonton copied it. When Riot released a new trailer, Moonton copied it. This is a critical issue for Riot.
Riot’s 2017 lawsuit against Moonton ended the year the court decided it should be held in China, not the United States, because Riot Games is owned by Chinese conglomerate Tencent, and Moonton is based in Shanghai and belongs to ByteDance (its own). It was bought in a $4 billion bid that beat out another Tencent).
In January, Riot sued Vietnamese developer Imba Technology for another alleged copy, accusing it of copying League of Legends with the game I Am Hero: AFK Tactical Teamfight. This case is still ongoing.
