LoL: Who won the climbing contest among the MSI participants?

Before each international competition, professional players come to the tournament grounds to train until D-Day. The results of scrims (practice match against other professional teams) are generally kept confidential, with the public only having the ratings of soloQ players to gauge the true state of the team. Therefore, local stairs are often studied and interpreted by fans. For the 2022 edition of MSI, the final results were unanimous: one team did much better than the others in this area.

soloQ geniuses

The previous article highlighted the performance of Dennis, who was the first player to achieve Master rank on a Korean server. It’s just that the Evil Genius team had no intention of stopping there. When the MSI starts, the four “top spots” (not the overall server ranking, but among the players participating in the MSI) are occupied by North American players. In third and fourth place, Inspired and Jojopyun are among only three players to win the Grandmaster title alongside Caps in the middle of G2 Esports. Both players have impressive stats, with Jojopyun 58% winning 143 games and Inspired winning 64% of 102 games.

While valuable, these performances are overshadowed by Dennis and Kaori. Titled ADCs are no longer first in individual leaderboards, but their profit margins are phenomenal. Won 75% of AD port games. This allowed him to win this title in less than 100 matches. Although this stat is special, the player is only in second place. Evil Genius Academic Team Kaori took first place, finishing with an opponent in the 722 LP (starting MSI). Although Kaori is unlikely to be seen on stage, performing well on the stairs is still a good way to gain confidence.

League of Legends

The impact of this ranking on the competition

Considering individual player performances, this is not a reliable indicator of team status. The competitive history of League of Legends is littered with examples where teams have beaten certain favorites and where individual player rankings are low compared to competitive leaders. On the other hand, there aren’t many examples of teams standing at the top of a ladder performing really badly in official tournaments. For Evil Genius, this means that the players have adapted to the local environment quite well, but it is not a sign that the team is going to play a great game at MSI.

If their players had the time to spam soloQ, it would even be possible to qualify this information, with the theory that it would be because the team would have trouble finding thin fabric. Although unlikely today, there have been similar situations in the past. However, they did not refer to teams from supposedly vast regions who never publicly complained about finding training partners.
