Dexerto reports that ESL plans to hold a Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Major in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

The event, now called IEM Rio, will run from October 31 to November 13 and marks ESL’s return to the Major after the last two majors hosting StarLadder and PGL. It will also be the fulfillment of the company’s long-standing gesture plan, which previously wanted to host ESL One: Rio Major in May 2020. The COVID-19 pandemic delayed and eventually canceled the event.

ESL has announced that the IEM Rio Major will be considered for Valve 2022 in September 2021. The location of the champion stage for the event has yet to be determined. The canceled 2020 version of the event was to be held at Jeunesse Arena, an indoor multi-purpose arena that previously hosted the 2017 League of Legends Mid-Season Invitational and 2018 Rainbow Six Siege 8 Pro League Finals.

If combined, the IEM Rio Major will be the second CS Major in 2022. It has yet to be announced to the public as the host of the first, scheduled for May 9-22.
