The 2022 iteration of Call of Duty, Modern Warfare II, has yet to be released, but leaks have already revealed details about Call of Duty 2024’s campaign.
Call of Duty 2024 is reportedly in development by Treyarch, the studio that runs the franchise’s Black Ops games. And while it’s still unclear if COD 2024 will be the next entry in the Black Ops franchise, a major backer seems to have announced that the game will be set in an unprecedented time in the franchise – the 1990s/2000s. .

On September 2, Call of Duty leaker @TheGhostOfHope wrote that Call of Duty 2024’s unannounced title campaign will include the Iraq War and Operation Enduring Freedom.
A week later, TheGhostOfHope added that the campaign will also include the Battle of Mogadishu, also known as the Black Hawk Death Incident, which took place during the wider Somali civil war.

TheGhostOfHope “I think it’s another great setting that goes well with Black Ops alongside Cold War.” on Twitter.
Unsurprisingly, many hearing the leak wonder how Treyarch will handle real-world events, given the politics involved.
In Modern Warfare (2019), Infinity Ward had a level called “Death Road”, which caused some controversy.
“I think it’s valid for people to think that addressing these sensitive yet topical issues could turn into a form of propaganda (Death Highway at MW19)” TheGhostOfHope on Twitter“But I think the Cold War was good enough to avoid that trap and look back.”
All in all, this is probably something to consider if the game really visits the 1990s and 2000s, especially since this will be the last COD title released under Sony’s current deal with Activision Blizzard.
In July, a leak revealed two COD 2024 maps, one named “Stealth” and the other “Pillage”. In the images, fans drew attention to various details such as the F-117 Nighthawk stealth aircraft.
