Under mounting pressure from international regulators, Microsoft has pledged to make Call of Duty available on PlayStation consoles for “a few more years” outside of Sony’s current deal with Activision Blizzard.
The news comes via The Verge, which Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer promised PlayStation President and CEO Jim Ryan earlier this year. Spencer has since confirmed his pledge to The Verge, stating, “In January, we provided Sony with a signed agreement to guarantee Call of Duty feature and content parity for at least a few years beyond Sony’s current contract. . to suggest. This goes beyond typical gaming industry agreements.”

While Spencer has made similar comments in the past, for Ryan making a written commitment is the most definitive about it.
US regulators were already investigating Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard for $68.7 billion. Last week, the UK Competition and Markets Authority said the deal deserved closer scrutiny as it is likely to stifle competition in the gambling industry.
Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick said he still believes the buyout will be approved and closed within Microsoft’s fiscal year, which ends in June 2023.
