A new report from NPD indicates that FromSoftware’s Elden Ring will close out the year as the world’s top-selling video game, marking the third time since 2009 that the game has topped a game outside of the Call of Duty series.
Other highlights from the report show that video game sales will decline worldwide, just like last year. One of the reasons for this is that due to supply chain issues related to COVID-19, the industry has been unable to meet player base demand by supplying both new consoles and new games.
Several upcoming games, including God of War: Ragnarok, Pokémon Scarlet/Violet, Madden NFL 23 and NBA 2K23, are expected to finish the year among the top 10 best-selling titles. These games should still provide the industry with plenty of money, especially as the holiday season approaches when many of these games will release or hit early sales.
Additionally, despite Elden Ring’s predictions to top the single player charts, Call of Duty will continue to dominate the industry maintaining its position as the best-selling game series for the rest of the year.
Additionally, one type of video game content will grow in 2022 compared to last year: subscriptions. From services such as PlayStation Network, Xbox GamePass, Battle Pass reward system and other subscription games, it is clear to users and developers that this is the most popular and effective way to make money right now, and success will follow. . Save subscriptions in 2023.
