With the momentum of the long-awaited 13th season of the battle royale hit, Apex Legends’ Skill Matching System (SBMM) remains one of the hottest debates in all of gaming.
As Respawn Entertainment looks set to delight its competitive players in Season 13, audiences continue to wonder how the game’s seemingly unstable SBMM system works.
However, thanks to an Apex player on Reddit, the public seems to be about to learn the Game Skill Matching System (SBMM) after ranking 500 unranked triple matches to explore.
Redditor posted a thread on behalf of u/isri7 on the r/apexlegends subreddit on Monday titled “I bet 500 triples to learn more about Apex SBMM.”
In the post, Istiri explained that as a Master level player on Xbox, they are trying to “better understand how the Apex match turns solo Q players into SBMM”.
The post lists the goals that Istria are specifically trying to achieve with a sample of 500 unranked triples matches, starting with understanding what they usually expect from their teammates and ending with how the matches build the team around them based on their skill level.
With plenty of data to play along with boxes and fiddles, Istrii then shared their common knowledge.
The first note is that, depending on their relative skill level, they will often never have teammates that will definitely lead them to victory.
Next, SBMM gives players a series of simpler lobbies after a bit of combat. Istiri noted that they had a 37-game losing streak, followed by a 21-game stretch with five wins and 10 top threes.

Finally, “absolutely punish” the actors when they are in a good drama. It looks like Istria had a 15-game stretch, where they had five wins (33%), an average of 3.4 eliminations and 1100 losses, and then the next 10 games were filled with pre-made teams and players with thousands of winning records according to legend.
Istiri also suggested that Respawn approach taverns.
The first is that at least 6.6% of games are loaded without a single teammate, which is even lower.
Finally, since their earnings are slightly over 2.2% when their teammates don’t quit, Istir wants Respawn to use the system to hunt down/punish repeat offenders in bars, but it’s not that hard. Like a sentence with a degree.
Afterwards, Ister seems to plan to work on 500 solo-duo duos followed by solo-line, which should be really interesting considering the quality of this prequel.
