Apex Legends content creator Lobotomy collected Season 14 data by comparing the hipfire emanating from last season with the current pattern. As you can see, the laser sight attachments don’t do as much as we’d hoped. SMGs were nerfed quite heavily by the hipfire spread, but Respawn’s promise was that laser sights would make them comparable at close range, but you lost the muzzle connection.
Players had to choose between the two, which meant spreading terrifying hip fire or struggling at medium and long range.
IT:
The SMG Hipfire base spread has been increased so much on the S14 that the white and blue laser sights are even worse than the S13 Hipfire.#apexlegends— Mokey (@mokeysniper) August 14, 2022
data-driven, until you reach laser sight level 3, your hip fire spread for each SMG is worse than last season. This was a blow to the SMG fanbase and is expected in some ways given how strong SMGs were last season.
The frustration mostly comes from the laser sight, which makes your SMG look the same. Many fans thought this would improve hip fire a bit, but at mid to long range your damage would be heavily damaged, forcing you to play close. But instead, your melee damage isn’t as great as long as you’re fighting from a distance.
It’s fun to point out that squatting makes all the difference when it comes to hipfire, so if you want to do something hipfire positive, start squatting more.
As of now, Respawn has no plans to change this path, so get used to the new SMG changes.
