How to Get Higher FPS in Apex Legends and Avoid 144 FPS Hats on PC

In Apex Legends, like any first-person shooter, your shots per second (FPS) are critical to success. Having a high FPS allows you to react faster to situations like incoming enemies.

But PC gamers will notice that your FPS caps out at 144 in Apex Legends. Luckily, there is a way around this limit even if your graphics card isn’t the best. Here’s how to get a higher FPS rate in Apex as well as how to upgrade to a 144 FPS computer.

To ensure that you have no FPS cap in Apex Legends, you need to add Apex Legends command line launch options on Steam and Origin.

If you’re not gaming with a great graphics card, but still want to be competitive, you have a choice. You can do this by changing all graphics settings to the lowest possible version. This will give you higher FPS (and definitely recommended for lower or older GPUs). Sure, there’s a trade-off in visual fidelity, but the higher FPS is often worth it for competitive gamers.

Many Apex Legends PC players use Discord to communicate with their friends during gameplay. While the software is great, there is a way to ensure that it’s fully optimized to eat up some extra FPS.

  1. Open Discord.
  2. Go to the settings menu (gear icon at bottom left).
  3. Click on the Overlay tab and make sure “Enable in-game overlay” is unchecked.

The Discord layer might not look like much, but it can generally affect low to mid-range PCs with in-game FPS. Users can also disable hardware acceleration located under the “Appearance” tab. This prevents Discord from using your graphics card to speed up the software and gives you more FPS in-game.

If that doesn’t work, the last resort is to upgrade your computer. According to Respawn Entertainment, these are the computing requirements you’ll need to run Apex Legends effectively. Failure to fully meet these requirements may result in dropped frames and other operational issues.
