Respawn Entertainment players were annoyed when they logged in and found that their favorite SMGs performed differently. Developers, including Respawn, have a bad habit of adding “hidden” nerds or buffs that aren’t mentioned in the patch notes. It can frustrate players to learn that their favorite weapon works differently and they don’t know why.
Luckily, it was Respawn Entertainment’s fault and not the secret SMG nerf. Naturally, Apex Legends players are interested because Season 12 has just started and it wasn’t mentioned in the patch notes.
We made some unintended changes to the hipfire SMG when releasing Defiance. We just removed it @PlayApex Update them back to their original values.

After players started posting about weapons with different moves, Apex Legends famous data mining shrugtal found a phantom nerve.
Increased hipfire distribution in Alternator, Prowler and R99.
* Stall: 1.0 -> 1.2 (+20%)
* Jogging: 1.5 -> 1.7 (+13%)
* Spring: 2.5 -> 2.7 (+ 8%)
* Airplane: 3.5 -> 4.0 (+14%)
One thing that worries me is the possibility of Respawn considering smuggling SMGs. Although this is a bug, it is a very specific change that seems intended. I wouldn’t be surprised if Respawn later applies a level of this nerf. SMGs have been a major part of the weapon meta for a while, so maybe they want to change something. However, based on this nuance’s nerf response, Respawn might change their minds.
