In a Q&A for Apex Legends, DBLTAP asked if they want a Respawn Entertainment payload in future seasons. This feature will help players deal with the problem of using “bearable” weapons for a long time. Design Director Evan Nikolic shared his take on the matter.
” Not for the moment. Core BR experience… We believe the Collision Weapons RNG is the core BR experience. This sets us apart from our competitors with the freight option. That doesn’t mean we’re not working on it. It’s really something people are interested in. There are some things we need to explore there, like what we can do to help customize weapon behavior and maybe add a bit more determinism. “For us, the focus right now is on the center loop of the arms. Purchase.”

While this isn’t the answer players currently want, it does illustrate the philosophical differences that exist in Respawn. The idea of RNG has been a big part of Battle Royales since its inception, but other games have tried to remove that element. For Warzone, players can get the loadout after a short time if they find enough money. This allows players to have the “insult” mentioned by Nikolic at the start of the game, which creates a classic BR experience. But after a while, players unlock their favorite or desired weapon.
Hopefully Respawn can see the importance of such a feature and make it a priority. Control Charges is a step in the right direction, and introducing Smart Trophies to the new IMC Armories is a similar thought process.
Apex Legends: Saviors arrives May 10.
