Norma Editorial hereby publishes the highly anticipated work of Jonathan Hickman, together with Mike Huddleston.

For some strange reason, space epics are becoming a popular subgenre. The same responds to the high production rate around Star wars or perhaps a need for escape (since such work consists of traveling to other worlds far from our own). In any case, it is interesting and even contradictory that this trend has emerged in a situation where it no longer favors space in favor of Earth’s problems.

Regardless, this type of content doesn’t stop coming. And it has been studied with different sensitivities. However, there are not many works in which his ambition is expressed. decency.

Jonathan Hickman, The author of this comic is from the series. This is beyond any doubt. Few writers have set the scene for an intellectual exaltation like him. Few write from the position of a question about reading respectfully and actively as he does to the reader. Even fewer are those who have managed to add so much literary and philosophical intensity to their pages and yet remain a ridiculous and therefore a visual medium.

But the thing is, it’s also a lot of fun. He knows the language and its mechanisms and executes them in a way that constantly fascinates the reader, no matter how abstract and complex his proposal. Y decency Not only is it an indicator of this, but it also adds new resources to its credibility.

The first thing you notice is that it’s a very concise story, coming from an author accustomed to long series that he can build at a slow pace. This comic consists of just eight American songs (longer than usual), arguably one of his most accessible works.

It is very difficult to describe this series in a few lines, as it does not follow an unusual story. Anyone familiar with Hickman’s work already knows his episodic narration, his explanatory texts between pages, his careful dosing of information… All this remains here in a complex story that goes in two directions: the power struggle in the hierarchy on the one hand, and the intensely supportive relationship between a hitman and an unexpected apprentice on the other.

These two lines diverge to study other topics such as religion in a robotic future. This project is full of allegories, but without any morality or suggestive ideological stance.. In addition, it is both critical and innovative.

The story is deliberately vague and asks the reader to fill in the blanks. There is never a particularly underlined answer. And that’s a very exciting thing. But not forgetting to tell a great story with a glorious confrontation.

But there’s also a self-employed criminal conspiracy, which is just as or more interesting. The connections between the two plots are perfectly intertwined in a scenario where, as always, everything fits perfectly. On this occasion, however, the famous screenwriter was seen in some respects as lax rather than meticulous. When a writer dares to step out of his comfort zone, he should be applauded.. Y decency is one of these situations.

The art was entirely done by Mike Huddleston. And the truth is, their contributions make every page clear. Clearly and simply, it’s overwhelming. This is a graphical experimental project that uses multiple styles across different sections. But it is by no means a blank screen.

This ensures that there is a spirit that constantly creates an astonishing and very interesting instability. You never know what your page will find. A very dynamic comic that makes the reader realize the extraordinary versatility it has.

After revealing all of the above, everyone will get used to the idea that there is no order or concert. However, it is not. The artist has very defined aesthetic patterns and the work has a very clear concreteness despite all the artificiality.

A special, creative and fascinating use of color contributes to this and gives different plasticities to the detailed line.. Sometimes he chooses rich and very distinctive colors, some have a more digital aspect, some are more handcrafted… The constant dialogue between minimalist and extravagant once again underlines the theme emphasized in this strip.

Norma Editorial expected to publish this material in a luxury book that shy away from nothing.. The format is ideal for careful and comprehensive observation of art. And little can be attributed to this majestic volume other than its high price. Likewise, publishing material in a more economically accessible format is not a bad option, as it has become commonplace.

decency redefines the space saga. He takes full advantage of all the possibilities of this subgenre and reinvents it until he finds a formula. Another step in a great career that doesn’t fail to deliver concepts that impress even the most knowledgeable. And all this from a very contemporary perspective.. It is a piece that you will want to have in your collection, read and read over and over again, with the feeling that you can always discover new things.

And the best part is, it looks like it will continue….
