Not everything in Kevin Feige’s career has been rosy.
what was done Marvel Studios it is a monument. One is slowly being built. But every build is made on the basis of pain, and even more megalomaniac, as in Marvel Studios.† As they say, there is no creation without friction. This is part of any worthwhile process, but the most important thing is that it doesn’t get out of control.
While not as common, it did happen on Disney’s superhero arm. It’s not an enjoyable meal, but here are some examples of bad decisions each other made. And all that can be learned from it:
8. Edward Norton
The Hulk’s entry into the MCU has nothing to do with what happens at the end of the character. And that’s because you have a clear and defined vision to get started. It is normal to be guided by trial and error when taking the first steps. But this, logically, causes more than one frustrating conflict.
Edward Norton is such an established actor of undoubted quality that it’s ridiculous to even put him on paper. And he was an actor who promised to deliver a Hulk. Borrowing from the television adaptation, he was portrayed as a runaway Hulk dealing with his personal trauma. However, creative problems soon arose as the actor wanted to make a mark and was involved in the script from the very beginning. Marvel Studios and Universal, on the other hand, wanted attention-grabbing action fun that was manageable and entertained for audiences.
The result of that train accident? The actor was fired and refused to participate in the promotional tour of the film. Fortunately, the character lay fallow until it was found through intercession. Robert Downey jr.a Mark Ruffalo taking over. That was when the emerald giant was definitively set, partially mocking the movie starring Norton.
Recently, on her appearance on the podcast WTF?! The actor from Marc Maron stated that he respects Marvel Studios-made cinema, even though the Hulk vision he wanted to explore took completely different paths. Norton is friends with Mark Ruffalo and greatly appreciates his work as the Hulk. How would the character evolve with a more dramatic version? It will never be known.
7. Edgar Wright
Imagine working hard over several years to develop a cinematic print of a character. It doesn’t have an impressive weight outside of niche audiences.† So in theory there should have been a lot of freedom when it came to redefining it. And that has to be the point behind hiring a writer with the great personality he is. Edgar Wright†
Ok his name will be linked ant man It was something important. Enough to delay the spawn of a character that should have been in stage 1. This made his eventual departure due to creative differences all the more painful at a time when the cast had already closed and production was about to begin. This was set when Edgar uploaded a photo to Twitter. buster keatonimplying that making a studio movie was a bad decision.
Apparently, Wright wanted the story of a character isolated from the MCU environment to dominate, and that didn’t fit Feige’s plans. However, the exact reasons for his dismissal were not made public.† Again, a lack of clear vision ultimately led to disaster. He was replaced by a docile Peyton Reed who clearly inherited some of Wright’s resources.
6. Terence Howard
Greed breaks the bag. Or, in this case, set the future of your career on fire. Terrence Howard shone like never before as James “Rhodey” Rhodes. But he did not realize that the success of the first Iron Man was due to him.
When he discovered the difference between what he would demand and what Robert Downey Jr. would receive, his ego played a trick on him asking for more compensation. would ask. He wanted eight million instead of the million in his pocket. Final score? Howard’s resignation and hiring… Don Cheadle on the same paper.
Although he tried to prevent the blood from reaching the river at the time, he was harshly criticized for wanting to get money at the time. Terrence Howard has repeatedly avoided talking about it.
However, a few years later Robert Downey Jr. was responsible for his resignation. In any case, he seems satisfied with the way things are going and he seems to understand that this has allowed him to turn the page and make a name for himself. It remains in the fantasies of the followers to imagine how the character would mutate if the same actor remained.
5. James Gunn
Story James Gunn and it was a great little love story from Marvel Studios. That is, until things go awry when she becomes the victim of a smear campaign in 2018. He has been highly critical of the Trump administration on Twitter, and many of the president’s supporters have begun to feature dark, humorous jokes he’s tweeted in the past.
Faced with this reputational crisis, Marvel Studios chose to leave their service, leaving the Guardians of the Galaxy trilogy incomplete. He opened the door to be able to do this suicide squad For Warner, however, it left a bad taste in the mouths of fans and everyone involved. Guardians of the Universe (actors have expressed their support for the director).
Within a few months, Marvel Studios re-enlisted Gunn, knowing there was no point in having anyone else shut down these characters. He and only he can make this movie and time will put everything in its place.
4. Villains Unite
There are some pitfalls here, but there have been more controversies than layoffs. And it’s not a few instances where well-known actors vehemently criticize their time at the company headed by Kevin Feige.† The main criticism is that they cut the creative process short while trying to give the characters dramatic depth. Not to mention that you feel a little ridiculous when it comes to playing the bad guys in flashy costumes and up-to-date attitudes.
Christopher Eccleston Strongly Criticizes Marvel Studios† In the first, he claimed that he wanted to commit suicide by working there:
“Working on something like GI Joe was horrible. I wanted to slit my throat every day. And Thor? I was thinking of putting a gun to my mouth.”
This also accused the study of misleading him about plans.†
“The first few days it was seven/eight hours a day. I think we managed to finish it in six and a half hours. This is already a working day before doing anything. Marvel has been unfair to me. Because they never informed me that there would be so much preparation time. So yeah, it wasn’t my best memory.”
Mickey Rourke also did not fall short in his criticism:
“Well, you know. It’s a shame, but they will see. If they want to make mindless cartoons, I don’t want to be a part of it. I don’t want to worry too much, work hard, and struggle to do something half-wise. I didn’t stress for three years and finally went to Russia to bite the dust.”
Hugo Weaving was a little more laid back when talking about Marvel Studios, but he shares a certain bitter history with the aforementioned:
“I don’t think the Red Skull will come back. But it’s not something I would do again. I’m glad I did. I signed up to make a few more movies, and I think I would have made them if I was under contract. But they don’t want to force them to do something they don’t want to do. I think I contributed to these kinds of films. It was fun to do that and try something different, but honestly, it’s not the kind of movie I’m looking for and really interested in.”
More recently, Dave Bautista has been the one to make controversial statements against Marvel. But the truth is that at this point, most of these issues have been resolved to the point where one of the most critical actresses, Natalie Portman, was reunited with them.
3. Alan Taylor
Cinematic Thor was looking for a presence that would act with respect to the public. If Kenneth Brannagh had not been part of the ICC, would the so-called Shakespeare’s glory and status have had the same success? It’s hard to know, but the truth is, it ended up being an uninteresting movie.
That’s why Thor: The Dark World was a test by fire. to doWho better than the director of some of his best episodes? game of Thrones To portray the god of thunder? Taylor tried to move away from the bright colors of her predecessor and give it a more realistic and brash look. But as he recently pointed out, most of the problems with this movie stem from the script.
In the end, the movie was the least helpful and the most disappointing to the audience.† And not surprisingly, almost all the criticism fell on their shoulders.
The director said in an interview he gave recently:
“After my experience of making Thor and Terminator, I lost my desire to make films, to be a director. I’m not blaming anyone. This process has not been good for me. So I had to reinvent the fun of directing.”
We should not forget that behind these works are very sensitive people who can be harmed by the criticism of the masses.† Fandom, be careful what you say and how you say it.
2. Scott Derrickson
This is more than a layoff, it’s a new misunderstanding. At the last SDCC where Marvel Studios was located, everything seemed to promise that it was not as it later was. Derrickson, the brand new director of the cinematic breakthrough and architect of visual identity, would return to direct the character in the sequel. It was presented as the first pure horror movie made by Marvel Studios.
From Saying to Doing… There were problems that arose with an approach that apparently really interested the director. This indicated many times that he wanted to include Nightmare as the antagonist, but it was eventually decided that The Scarlet Witch would play that role.
At one point in the process, Derrickson and Stranger parted ways.† His replacement was finally Sam Raimi, no more, no less. Derrickson remained with a production credit.
1.MarvelTV
After Ike Perlmutter left the board and Kevin Feige took over all of the MCU’s creative power, the television division was disbanded. It was Jeph Loeb who led that division and left that position.
It was clear that there was more conflict than synergy between the various TV series and Marvel movies, all of which seemed to indicate that the cohesion between the various episodes was far from the most positive. Kevin Feige loves being the only one playing these characters, and since Marvel started producing its own television content for Disney+, the difference has been noticeable.
Marvel Studios has become a very productive machine. However, this does not mean that there are no pits and there may still be pits. With any luck, it is hoped that there will be less and less non-cinema conflicts.
